BSF organize a ceremonial parade on its 58th Raising Day

India’s first line of defence, the Border Security Force (BSF) held a ceremonial parade in Amritsar to mark its 58th Raising Day. For the second time the Raising Day parade is held outside the national capital, last year the 57th Raising Day parade was held at Jaisalmer. 

BSF was raised on December 1, 1965 following the 1965 Indo Pak war with an aim to guard the country’s frontiers. K F Rustamji was the first Director General (DG) of BSF and over the years it became the world’s largest border guarding force which is is deployed along 6386 km of international border with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

On Sunday, the Raising Day parade was held at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai took the salute of the parade as the chief guest. During the parade, well-turned-out contingents of different Frontiers of BSF marched past the inspection dais, showcasing the Seema Praharis’ valour, saga and commitment to the nation. The parade comprised a march past of 12-foot contingents including Mahila Prahari contingent, decorated officers and men. 

 

The minister laid a wreath at the Martyr’s Column of the personals who had made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty at BSF’s station headquarters, Khasa, Amritsar. 

 

He also bestowed the BSF personals with Police Medals for Gallantry to Next of Kin (NoK ) of brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and to the serving BSF personnel, and President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to serving and retired personnel for their services. The prestigious ‘General Choudhary Trophy’ was awarded to 66 Bn BSF for their exceptional performance. He also released the annual ‘Borderman’ Magazine of the force.

  

The minister lauded the parade and the decision to organize the event in Amritsar and the significance of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” being commemorated this year. He also reminisced about the role of the BSF in various historic events like the 1971 war when BSF personnel fought bravely against a numerically superior force despite being in the nascent stage of its raising.

“Nation is grateful and will always stand by the security forces for the dedicated service to the motherland,” said the minister while applauding the role of BSF in protecting the sovereignty of the nation and said that the government of India would leave no stone unturned to provide the best technological equipment, and infrastructure facilities to ensure that the operational challenges arising due to the present day geo-political scenario are fully met.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General, BSF, Pankaj Kumar Singh said the journey of BSF began with raising of just 25 battalions that now evolved into the largest border guarding force in the world with 193 battalions and a strength of more than 2.65 lakh brave men and women deployed in every kind of extreme terrain, temperatures and other challenging scenarios. He also explained how this force has established itself as a multi-functional force efficiently discharging its various responsibilities.

DG BSF also emphasised the achievements of various formations and institutions of BSF in the areas of operations, sports, adventure, welfare, bilateral cooperation with neighbouring countries and various other fields. During his address, DG BSF assured that every Seema Prahari will strive to protect the sovereignty of the nation’s borders even at the peril of their lives. He also referred to BSF’s achievements, new initiatives and preparations to deal with future challenges.

  

On the occasion a dog show by National Training Center for Dogs ,BSF , trained dogs, battle drills show by camel mounted praharis, horse contingent, Gajraj and Chetak drill by BSF team that involved dismantling, obstacle crossing and assembly of motor vehicle, adrenaline packed daredevil motorcycle show by Seema Bhawani women team and Jaanbaaz mens team. Tableaux of Water Wing, Air Wing were also displayed during the parade.

  

Earlier on December 3, the minister of state for home affairs visited borders areas of Joint Check Post Attari, witnessed “Beating the Retreat” ceremony parade and Border Out Post (BOP) Pulmoran in Amritsar sector where he was given an operational briefing regarding the security scenario. He also addressed the gallant Seema Praharis at BOP Pulmoran in a Sainik Sammelan, partook dinner with troops during Barakhana and halted for the night at the BOP.
